Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that attach to all sides of your pelvis including the tailbone and sacrum. These muscles support your pelvic organs, including the bladder, uterus, and rectum and are related to the physiology of bladder function, bowel function, sexual function and childbirth. At Studio Avani, our PTs specialize in pelvic floor function and physiology and can help you achieve balance when a dysfunction presents itself. We conduct a thorough evaluation through questions related to history and current function of the organ systems as well as a physical examination of the external and internal anatomy. This includes a thorough examination of pelvic floor muscle strength and coordination. This comprehensive evaluation will help us gain insight to how these muscles are playing a role in your daily function and overall quality of life.
Childbirth Education
Pregnancy and childbirth is an awesome and life changing experience for all members of the family. The current model of childbirth education typically involves a weekend course at a local hospital with limited information. Here at Studio Avani, we believe in the importance of providing a well-rounded education experience that is informative, research based and interactive. We believe in the value of empowering women and families to learn about their bodies during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. In doing so, you will gain the knowledge and confidence required to have open communication with your chosen provider in order to be a full participant in your prenatal care. Following the birth of your child, we are committed to educating families on early infant care and breastfeeding, and to provide valuable resources as you navigate this new and exciting time.
Prenatal and Postpartum Fitness
Pregnancy and childbirth are two of the most incredible experiences the female body can go through. They are a period of expansion, growth, nourishment and new life. In order to support these times, we at Studio Avani are here to provide safe, engaging and powerful exercise classes to not only support a healthy pregnancy, but also prepare you for the birth experience. These classes include strength training, stretching, mindfulness, yoga, meditation and breath work to optimize the health and wellness of the pregnant body. To supplement movement we also focus on educating and empowering women in the function of their anatomy during pregnancy and childbirth to strengthen their connection during this time.
The postpartum female body requires a different level of care, concern and support than your prenatal body. Pregnancy and birth are powerful experiences, often leading to changes in the structure and function of the pelvic floor, which is the grounding force that connects the core and spine to the rest of our body. It is vital that women understand the changes in their postpartum selves in order to safely return to exercise and minimize harm. Classes at Studio Avani prioritize education on the pelvic floor and how it can function, and dysfunction after childbirth. Our classes are structured in a way to provide an engaging experience that challenges and supports your individual body as you continue on your journey of healing. We encourage and celebrate the ups and downs of the postpartum experience, and our goal is to empower you with knowledge and strength in order to fully restore yourself.
